Vacation photos

I just spent the week at one of my favorite places on Earth. The Eastern Shore of Maryland. Specifically Assateague Island.
Assateague Island is a very special place for me. It's one of the most beautiful places you will ever find.

It holds a very dear place in my heart because it's where I spent my childhood. Every weekend was spent in the camper on the surf with my family. Playing on the beach with my brother and cousins. Searching for seashells with Dad. Walking along the surf with Mom. Helping Dad and Uncle Joe reel in the big fish. Teasing the crabs we caught as they tried to claw their way out of the bucket. Listening to stories by the bonfire at night.

When I was old enough, my Dad taught me how to drive on the surf. I got my first suv and every chance I had, I would load up the dog and spend the day soaking up the sun. It's probably the thing I miss the most about living 2 hours away.

As soon as I cross the bridge onto Assateague Island, I breathe a sigh of relief. All my stress just melts away. The salt air enters my lungs and all is right with the world. It is my therapy. It is my sanctuary. It is my little piece of heaven on Earth.

This past week, I loaded up my Skye girl and we headed to Assateague every day of my vacation. I've turned my little snow dog into a beach dog. She has her very own shade umbrella. She snuggles into the sand and naps while I sunbathe. She walks with me as I hunt for shells and other interesting finds.

When we grill on the beach, she knows exactly where to plant herself. She doesn't stray far from the food. Her strategy is to place herself right in the center of the food prep so she can catch every little crumb that comes her way. That's my girl.

When I wasn't on the beach, I was eating crabs with my big brother. I was having drinks with one of my dearest friends. I was shopping with Mom. I was catching up with friends I don't get to see nearly enough. I was spending time with my family. I was relaxing and rejuvenating.
When my Skye girl wasn't on the beach, she was trying her hardest to find a comfy spot at my parent's house to stretch out. As you can see, my parent's dog's bed is just not quite big enough for my girl. She's so silly.
